KENDALL RILEY'S NEWS REPORTING AND WRITING PORTFOLIO
ABOUT ME
My name is Kendall Riley. I am an AYA Integrated Language Arts major with a Licensure of 7-12 grade in Shawnee State University’s Education Program. I am excited about being a teacher and I really enjoy reading and writing which is what drew me into choosing English as my subject. I am also considering continuing my education and becoming a Spanish teacher because I am working on learning Spanish and I think I would enjoy teaching that subject as well. My love for reading and writing made this News Reporting and Writing class a good choice for me. I really enjoyed learning more about reporting and this class was a great educational experience.
This semester (fall 2023) I took my General Methods education class and so I was able to gain many hours of field experience in an ELA (English Language Arts) classroom. I was able to see how much I enjoyed teaching English, but I was also able to see how challenging it can be to teach writing. I think that this class has given me a better understanding of writing–especially in APA format which is not often required of ELA students–and it has given me some ideas about interesting possibilities for teaching my students about writing. It could be fun to challenge my students to act as reporters and write a news story for my class and I would be prepared to draw from my works and experiences from this class to help them with this process. The works that I would draw from are linked in this portfolio.
